Bela, or Belote, is the most popular card game in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region. Klaverjas is its Dutch member: the same 32-card deck, the same trump order and the same card values. Play three versions of Klaverjas in your browser, with no download and no registration.
What matches Bela
- A 32-card deck from seven to ace, and four players in two partnerships.
- In trumps the jack is highest and scores 20, the nine scores 14, then ace 11, ten 10, king 4 and queen 3.
- In other suits the ace scores 11, ten 10, king 4, queen 3 and jack 2. The last trick adds 10, for 162 points per deal.
- Melds: three cards in sequence score 20, four score 50, and king and queen of trumps score 20.
- The partnership that plays the trump must take more than half the points, or the opponents score the deal.
How Klaverjas differs
Trump selection and the scoring of some melds differ from Bosnian Bela rules, and a match lasts a set number of deals rather than running to 1001 points. Rotterdam rules always require trumping when you cannot follow suit. Amsterdam rules release you from that when your partner is already winning the trick. Each version shows its own rules before play.
